“What?” Alfred gripped your wrist, fear crossing his face. “We have to tell Arthur right now.”

He didn’t spare a moment in pushing you into the car and driving as quickly as was allowed back to the department. Before you could open the door and step out, Alfred was already inside the building and on his way to the Chief’s office.

When you walked in, Alfred’s hands were placed flat on the desk and his face was only a few inches from Arthur’s.

“We have to get to your house and arrest Zao immediately, sir! He’s the only other person who could have committed something like this, seeing as he’s the only other one with a key to their apartment!”

“Calm down, Alfred,” urged Arthur, his hands pushing at the other’s chest to keep him back from leaning any further against him. He glanced over Alfred’s shoulder, looking at you with an expectant expression. “Well?”

It took you less than a second to nod. “Zao should be at work, though, unless he’s on his lunch break right now. He’s only home right before me, but he might still be there.” You looked at the clock. “It’s close to when he usually leaves for lunch.”

Arthur nodded and gave Alfred one push to send him back to his original spot at the front of the desk. “Alright, you can go. Bring a few of the others with you, just in case.”

The young man grinned- widely and dorkily, as per usual- and gave him a quick two-fingered salute before rushing off. The older officer shook his head and slumped down into his chair, his fingers working at his temples tiredly. After a moment or two he looked up at you apologetically, almost with a hint of guilt.
“I’m sorry that you’re getting put through all of this trouble. If there was anything I could do, it would have already been done.”

You shook your head, giving him a tired smile. “It’s nothing for you to worry about, Arthur. We’re all doing the best we can.”

The man looked away for a moment, a concentrated look on his face. “What’ll you do once Zao is here?”

You blinked; you hadn’t thought of that. “I have no idea, to be honest. Do you think either you or Alfred could talk to him, first? It’s probably best I stay out of this until I have to intervene. Besides, if he’s talking to one of you two I’ll be able to tell if he’s lying about anything.”

He laughed, leaning back in his chair and smiled up at you happily. “I knew hiring you, even so long ago, was a good decision.”

You let out a quiet snicker before heading back to your desk, finishing up another report and a few unfinished files during the wait.

An hour later, an abrupt slam of the main door made you jump in your chair, causing you to look up in surprise to see Alfred leading Zao in handcuffs, him protesting and yelling the entire time. Zao looked up just in time to see his sweetheart staring at him.

“What am I doing here, [Name]? You have to tell them I haven’t done anything!” He looked at you incredulously.

Alfred gripped his arm tighter and pulled him sharply towards another room. “Be quiet, you know why you’re here.”

“Shut up, I wasn’t talking to you,” Zao barked and struggled against his harsh grip. The taller man ignored him and dragged him to the back room, where they planned to interrogate him. You could hear more yells and protests, wincing with every harsh word thrown at your partner. Arthur stood up and walked over to where you were, and gave you a gentle pat on the shoulder.

“Don’t worry,” he told you quietly, although the look on his face told you he knew his words were all in vain. He led you towards the double-sided mirror that overlooked the room that Alfred and Zao were now in.

Zao had finally calmed down but was still glaring, and as he looked towards the mirror his stare seemed to darken. Alfred leaned over the table on his hands towards his interrogee.

“Why did we find your house key at the scene of the murder, Zao?” His eyes flashed with a hint of surprise and a mix of anger, before an innocent look came upon his face.

“Was that where my keys were?”

Alfred snorted, earning another glare from the other man. “Where were you yesterday- when the murder occurred- and what were you doing?”

It didn’t take the Chinese man more than a second to respond. “I had yesterday off, so I was at home working.” At the curious look from his interrogator, he shook his head and continued. “My family owns a small woodcraft shop a couple of blocks down from our apartment. On my days off, I make small figurines to contribute to the family business.”

From behind the glass, you confirmed this to Arthur. “He’s actually very good at it,” you admitted.

Alfred nodded and sat down, now directly across from Zao. “So how exactly did you lose your keys in the same park the murder occurred in?” He asked, his glare boring through Zao’s skull.

“I decided to take a break after finishing my woodworking,” he explained, “and then realized we needed groceries. Instead of taking our car, since the shops are so close, I figured I would walk instead. That morning was too nice to pass up a good, early morning walk.” He glanced at the nearby wall with a bored expression. “I must have dropped my keys while walking.”

“He said he lost his keys and got locked out,” You whispered. “I had to pick him up.” Arthur nodded absentmindedly, completely focused on the conversation happening in front of him.

“Alright,” Alfred suddenly stood up. “I’ll be back.” He walked out the door and into the room that you and were Arthur were standing, and leaned against the door. As he stared at the floor, he crossed his arms. “I don’t see any room for a loophole in his statements. They all seem to stand solidly, but he’s still a suspect. He’s suspicious enough as it is.”

As you stood, looking at the man on the other side of the “mirror”, Arthur suddenly turned to you with a curious look on his face. “Where does Zao work?”

You frowned, an annoyed look on your face. “He doesn’t say.”

“What?” Alfred looked at you in confusion. “How can you not know where he works? You two live together.”

You shook your head and shrugged. “I don’t ask, so he doesn’t say.”

The sides of Arthur’s mouth twitched down into a frown. “You need to start asking these things; he could be hiding something, [Name]. You don’t know how dangerous he might actually be.”

You rolled your eyes, but nodded. “I’ll find out sometime. Right now, though, let’s just keep focused on the case right now, okay?” The other two nodded, and Alfred went to retrieve Zao.

He continued to fight against the restraints, but with the help of Arthur he was eventually dragged into another room to restrain him from leaving.

Minutes later Alfred came back to where you were still standing. “Do you want to go back to the apartment to see if there’s anything that might help us further with this case?”

You laughed slightly and assured him there was nothing there, but after some persuading were conned into coming along.

Once there, you were cautious to look through every space they thought possible to hold any kind of evidence. Every nook and cranny, anything out of place. Alfred finally came upon the fridge; a ‘What?’ was mumbled under his breath as he ducked down to grab the small, unnaturally colored cloth he could see poking out of the bottom-

Just to narrowly miss the three bullets that whizzed right through the spot where his head had been.

Everything after that was a blur.

You had heard the glass from the window shatter, and immediately came into the kitchen. Alfred stood back up with a pale face and grave expression. “We have to get out of here.”

He grabbed the gun out of his belt holster and started towards the door before four men with masks conveniently secured over their faces burst in. Without an extra second to think, both of you were incapacitated and unable to move.
You struggled against your captors’ grip and tried to break free, but a cloth was quickly held over your mouth. Chloroform. Before you could react in any other way, the room had started to swirl and your vision was encompassed in darkness.

With a pained groan and heavy eyes struggling to open, you were able to make out a small source of light in your limited consciousness. You tried to move your arms, but found the rough material tied around your wrists provided only limited movement.

Deep breath. In. Out. In. Out.

You had managed to force your eyes to fully open, and you were able to make out with the small amount of light you had that you were in a warehouse, as it looked like. At a glance around, it seemed to be only filled with wooden boxes and a couple run-down vendor’s carts.

As your vision was directed downwards, you caught sight of a knife near your foot. You looked down towards your waist and noticed the belt that normally would hold your gun was gone.

With a sigh, you reached out with your foot to pull the knife towards your. Almost- ah, got it.

Easily, you brought it up and within less than a minute you were free of your bindings. The knife was held firmly in your hand, as you had no intentions of letting it go.

The warehouse you were located in was huge; every time you passed a hallway another dozen seemed to follow after it. After looking through nearly every possible exit you could find, the one door at the end remained. With a deep breath, you pushed the door open.

“There you are, I was wondering when you would show up!”

You immediately stumbled a step back at the sight; Zao stood only a few feet in front of your with a crazed grin, his carving knife in hand.

“Zao, what are you doing?!” You looked as if you was ready to run at any second if necessary.

“I have to finish what I started, [Name].” His expression turned almost guilty for a second, but it disappeared just as quickly. “I suppose I should tell you what all of this was about,” he glanced down at you, “for I worked with the black market.” He grinned at your shocked expression. “My whole family did, to be more exact.

“We were running out of things for exchange, and they finally got fed up with us and threatened to come after us if we didn’t do anything about. One of our options,” he paused to stare at you, “was to kill someone of high power, like a police officer such as yourself. You’re well known, so if we took you out they’d leave us alone.”

You were leaning against the door for support, gasping as everything before now clicked into place. “What happened to Alfred?” You suddenly asked, in fear for your partner’s life.

He completely ignored you and took another step towards where you were, the grin back on his face. “I believe I’ll finish off where we’d left off last time.” And with that, he lunged towards you.

With each step you took back, he would easily cover it within a second, getting closer each time. At one point before you could even turn around, he stuck out his foot and easily tripped you.

“Finally,” he gasped, and stood over you. You backed up against the wall, breathing heavily, your eyes wide. He held up the knife, his grin large, and was about to bring it down just before he stopped. The complete darkness that had encompassed his pupils seemed to melt away, only leaving concerned dark irises behind.

“W-What…?” He looked at you in terror. “[Name], what’s going on?” You looked at him with just as much terror, but with some confusion.

“Zao-”

“Drop the knife!”

Alfred, Arthur and three other officers ran through the doors, guns in all of their hands pointed towards the man in front of you. He dropped the knife and held his hands up, his body visibly shaking.

“You shouldn’t have kept this from us, else you would’ve been in a lot less trouble as you are now,” Arthur stated as he walked up to the man and roughly tightened handcuffs around him. He shoved him over to Alfred, then walked over to you and grabbed your shoulders gently.

“It’s alright now, you’re safe.” He gave you a warm, reassuring glance.

You walked back outside with Arthur, where Zao was being pushed into the police car. He heard the pair of you conversing and looked back, just in time to catch your eye.

“I’m sorry,” he mouthed, just before he was shoved rather roughly into the vehicle.
AHHH IT'S FINALLY DONE!
Alright so I've finished tweaking the second part of :iconxyourhero: xYourHero's commission! This was so fun to write, and I have to say it's one of my absolute favorites. I've never written for a 2P before, and 2P!China, for goodness' sake... I was a bit scared to take this on, as I was afraid I wouldn't get his character right.
Anywho, I hope y'all like it! Hero, I especially hope you like it. ^u^
I was actually thinking of labeling this '2P!China x Reader x America because it totally was seeming to turn out like that; Alfred is such a persistent character, dammit xD

I frucken love it thank you for making a second one (even though that was probably what you were going to do in the first place). This ties up all lose ends and works in succesion with the first one which is brilliant. I love reading adaptations of already popular things because it changes it around and puts you in different perspective. You may have not made the original Jekyll and Hyde but this is phenomenal. I'll definitely read it again in the future, just the way you describe things is so captivating. Keep up the good work so I can read more of your amazing stories and art. GOOD JOB!!!
